Their Words: A teaching, performance and rehearsal space for professional musicians and students in the Gowanus / Park Slope area of Brooklyn, NY. Our goal is to foster a community of students and professional musicians in a creative environment. Ibeam welcomes all types of music with a focus on improvisers, composers, world, pop, jazz and experimental music. We encourage music that pushes boundaries.
Our Words: This new, artist-curated venue serves as a rentable rehearsal, workshop and performance space. In the short time that it has existed, it has established itself as one of the better sources for non-boring jazz in the city, one of the places to go if you want to see some of the artists who are genuinely moving the language forward (i.e., the language of jazz and improvised music). Not only does the music there push boundaries, it's often really good. The lineup includes mainstays of the downtown/Brooklyn scene, as well as younger up and coming players.
IBeam is a small, well-lit venue with a high ceiling and good acoustic sound (and a nice grand piano). The vibe is of a relaxed, unpretentious DIY nature, and it can be a nice hang.
