Their Words: "New York's cutting edge jazz club"
Our Words:
Our Words: Smalls is the spot for modern jazz leaning less towards the experimental side of the spectrum. An energetic, intimate club, and host to residencies for Ralph Lalama, Ari Hoenig, and other exceptional talent, Smalls also welcomes musicians to late night jam sessions periodically. Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joel Fraham, Nasheet Waits and Ethan Iverson have all played Smalls, in addition to many younger locals. Some nights the music will veer in a more traditional direction than others, so I’d recommend researching the night’s performers before you head to a show, depending on your preference. That’s not to say, however, that Smalls isn’t a place to have your mind blown. Aesthetically, it’s one of the most comforting small clubs, with great decor and seating provided by random chairs of all shapes and sizes.
