Jazz Gallery

Website
Borough: Tribeca, Manhattan
Where: 290 Hudson St.

Their Words: The Jazz Gallery is a not-for-profit cultural center located in lower manhattan which provides an international venue where the youngest generation of professional jazz musicians can be nurtured, giving them an audience for their performances adna stage upon which to assemble their bands. The Gallery encourages established musicians to present new projects and collaborate with emerging artists in mentoring roles.

Our Words: This hidden from the street, second floor loft venue is the best venue in New York City to see any type of jazz. It’s a modest narrow venue, with white walls usually lined with great paintings, and tickets can only be obtained through phone reservations the day of the show. Roy Hargrove is a recurring bigger performer at the Jazz Gallery, but whether you’ve heard of who’s playing or not, you truly cannot go wrong when it comes to the music; it speaks for itself. Steve Coleman is also doing his 5th season of master classes at the Jazz Gallery. Check the website for details on this great opportunity to investigate musical ideas with a “master saxophonist / improviser / composer / bandleader” such as Coleman (their words, but we’re inclined to agree).

Music Every Night?: There are some nights off during the week. Check their website for details. Sets are at 9:00 and 10:30pm.

Capacity: 70 seated

Reservations: Yes, check their website for more info

Age Restriction: All ages

Food / Drink: It's a performance space, not a bar, so they don't have food/drinks for sale. (bring your own, though!)

Price / Student Discount: they range from $12-15, but if you become a jazz gallery member ($40 a year for students, $75 for others), tickets are only $10, and there are sometimes special members only events.
