Thursday Bark and Scream Series: Daryl Shawn and Todd Reynolds
The Firehouse Space05/17/2012 08:00PM
About This Show
Brooklyn resident Daryl Shawn combines his able flamenco-influenced nylon-string guitar work with live tape manipulations, using a four-track cassette machine and Dictaphone microcassette player to record, replay and twist his acoustic tones into unrecognizable shapes. He has appeared at venues across the country and taken part in festivals including the International Live Looping Festival in Santa Cruz CA, the Boise Creative & Improvised Music Festival, the Norcal Noisefest, and Cleveland's Ingenuity Festival. Along the way, he has collaborated with musicians including Jonathan Lamaster (Cul de Sac), Ross Hammond, Greg Campbell, Gino Robair, Jonathan Segel, Emily Hay, Moe Staino, and numerous others.
Todd Reynolds, violinist, composer, educator and technologist is known as one of the founding fathers of the hybrid-musician movement and one of the most active and versatile proponents of what he calls ‘present music’. The violinist of choice for Steve Reich, Meredith Monk, Bang on a Can, and a founder of the string quartet known as Ethel, his compositional and performance style is a hybrid of old and new technology, multi-disciplinary aesthetic and pan-genre composition and improvisation. -

CUDDLE MAGIC.
Barbès05/17/2012 10:00PM
About This Show
Cuddle Magic is an avant-folk band whose songs revolve around complex transformations of deceptively simple folk melodies and perpetually shifting rhythms. In spite of the ensemble's large size and wide-ranging instrumentation, their music is spacious and accessible. Subtle vocal interplay, inventive orchestration, and wry and surreal lyrics combine to create music at once dreamlike and powerfully direct.
