Peter Bitenc

Peter Bitenc grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he was gigging in local clubs
not long after taking up the bass at age 15. Peter attended the New England Conservatory of Music where he studied with Steve Lacy, Cecil McBee, and Jerry Bergonzi and graduated with a degree in Jazz Studies in 2004. In 2005, Peter moved to New York City where he is currently active in the jazz, rock and country music scenes.

In 2007, Peter became a regular member of the Daniel Levin Quartet. He has recorded three albums with this Quartet, the most recent Organic Modernism, was released in 2011 on Clean Feed. Peter is also a member of Mike Pride's From Bacteria to Boys. Their 2010 record Betweenwhile on Aum Fidelity received much critical acclaim. He also plays with the honky-tonk country band the Sweetback Sisters. This band tours extensively in support of their 2011 release, Looking for a Fight, on Signature Sounds Records. Peter also freelances outside of these projects and leads his own country-rock band Hunter Gatherer in which he sings and plays guitar.
