Akiko Sasaki

Much sought after for her adaptability as both a pianist and kotoist, Akiko Sasaki has anchored a prospering position as a performer and music educator in the New York City area. Sasaki has appeared throughout Europe and the United States both as a soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared in venues such as Merkin Hall, Tenri Cultural Institute, Roulette, The Stone, Rubin Museum, Chandler Center for the Arts, and as a winner if New York’s Artist International Award, she gave her solo debut at Carnegie Hall in 2006. As a kotoist, Sasaki performs various styles of music from traditional Japanese folk music, to contemporary composers, to improvisations with musicians of New York City's avant-garde scene. She can also be heard in concert with kotoist Masayo Ishigure and the New York Miyabi Koto and Shamisen Ensemble. She has premiered new compositions for koto by composers Miya Masaoka and Seungmin-Cha.
